What is the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair?
1-54 is an international fair of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, with editions in London, New York and, since 2018, Marrakech. Galleries from several continents show their artists, and museums, foundations and studios across the city open exhibitions the same week.
When it takes place
Time of the year: late January or February. Length: four days. The organisers announce the exact dates and the programme of each edition: check them on the official site of the event before you book flights and rooms, then book the transfer for the same dates.
Where it takes place in Marrakech
The fair is held at La Mamounia, with a second site in the medina. The week also includes exhibitions at MACAAL, in the Al Maaden estate, at the Yves Saint Laurent museum and the Majorelle Garden, at Jardin Rouge outside the city and in galleries of Gueliz and the medina.
Getting to Marrakech for the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair

The venues are spread over the whole city and beyond: La Mamounia by the medina walls, MACAAL 15 minutes to the south-east, other foundations in the countryside. A car with a driver for half a day or a day is the simple way to see several in a row. La Mamounia checks cars at its gate.
